Add a Locality

Localities control what formats the web application displays for dates, times, currency, and so on. Set up as many localities as your organization needs.

To add a locality

  1. In the web application, select Admin Menu path separator Localities Menu path separator All Localities from the menu.

The list of the localities already set up displays.

  2. Click New.
  3. In the Locality Definition section, complete these fields:
    • Name: Enter a short but meaningful name for this location.
    • Language: Click Drop-down button and select a language from the list.
    • Time zone: Click Drop-down button and select a time zone from the list.
  4. In the Date/Time Formats section, complete all fields to define how the date and time displays to users in this location.

The formats are case sensitive, so make sure you use the following convention for:

    • Hours: HH (upper case)
    • Minutes: mm (lower case)
    • Seconds: ss (lower case) for example HH:mm:ss
    • Day: dd (lower case)
    • Month: MM (upper case)
    • Year: yyyy (lower case) for example dd/MM/yyyy

The short formats are how dates and times will display to users at this locality when they enter data into a record in the web application.

The medium and long formats are only used by the system - you cannot change them.

  5. You cannot change anything in the Numeric Formats section.

The number and currency formats reflect the Language value you selected in step 3. They change after you save, close, then reopen the locality.

  6. Click Save.

    Your changes apply immediately.

  7. Close the All Localities tab.

Notes about date and time formats

  • SHORT is numeric, such as 12/13/52 or 3:30pm
  • MEDIUM is longer, such as Jan. 12, 1952
  • LONG is longer, such as January 12, 1952 or 3:30:32pm
  • FULL is everything, such as Tuesday, April 12, 1952 AD or 3:30:42pm PST
  • When searching by date, you will need to use the numeric format for the month in the search criteria field, regardless of the date format.
