Add a Component Rollup Relationship

Rollup relationships ONLY apply to hierarchical components, such as Location and Department. A component can have more than one rollup relationship attached to it - names distinguish between them.

Rollups allow you to associate child records to parent records. They can be used to filter data at various levels.

Rollups allow users to record incidents at a low level, yet report at a high level. For example using a rollup, you can quickly get a count of the number of incidents at a particular site.

A rollup relationship can only be created if a tree view exists for that relationship.

To add a Rollup Relationship to a Component

  1. Create a component relationship as normal.
  2. To create a Rollup, the relationship must meet the following criteria:
    • the RELATED component must be identical to THIS component (For example Department).
    • the relationship type must be a 'Many to 1', i.e. the cardinality must be set as follows:
      • One [THIS component] record can have how many [RELATED component] records? Menu path separator Answer = 1
      • One [RELATED component] record can have how many [THIS component] records? Menu path separator Answer = MANY
  3. Save the relationship.
  4. Only if the above criteria are met, the system will display the Rollup relation option. Set this value to Yes.
  5. Save the relationship.
  6. The system will display Rollup Component ID (this field is Read Only and cannot be modified).
