When I open a view in the web application, some of the columns are too wide for the content, and others are too narrow. I'd like to have different widths for these columns so the information displays better to the user.

You need to adjust the column widths. Do this with the List View Designer.

Once you have saved your changes, you will need to run a publish and refresh the browser.
