Roam Overview

What is SAI360 Roam?

SAI360 Roam is the mobile companion for the Web Application. It has been optimized for the use on Smartphones (rather than tablet devices) and supports:

  • Apple
  • Android
  • Windows 10

With Roam, you can

  • While off-line (i.e. no network connection)
    • Create new records, and save these records to the mobile device.
    • Modify "in progress" records (records you have created on the device, but not yet uploaded).
  • While on-line
    • Update the My Tasks list, and edit/save records accessed from this list.
    • Search, view and (if so configured) edit current Tasks which are assigned to you.
    • Upload records from the mobile device to the SAI360 database.
Records which had been previously saved to the mobile device will be automatically uploaded when the Roam app is opened.
    • Search, retrieve, view and modify existing records in the SAI360 database.
    • Use the Location Aware feature to identify issues (e.g. Hazards) near my current location.

Any form available in the web application can be made available on Roam, although there is much to consider.

Functionality Notes

Some general functionality that apply to the SAI360 Roam app are as follows:

  • If there are more than 30 records, Component Lookups will initially only display the first 30 records, and will display the message 'Narrow search to retrieve more records' at the end of the list. This is done for performance and display reasons.
However, as soon as you start typing into the 'Search' box, this list is dynamically refreshed - until the user can locate and select the required record.
  • All local data and records will be deleted on the mobile device when
    • a user is logging out of Roam
    • the Roam app is uninstalled
  • The mobile device must be connected to a network where it can access the SAI360 server to utilize "online" functionality (i.e. accessing My Tasks, search records on the database, upload records, update form definitions, update referential data).
  • Not all field types are currently supported on Roam forms, see the configuration section of this document for further details.
  • Records created "offline" will only be uploaded when the mobile device is connected to a network with access to the SAI360 server, AND the Roam app is opened (not just running in the background).
  • Roam obeys the security model, as defined in the web app.
