note_awesome

You must have administrative permissions to make any changes to roles.

Types of roles

There are three broad role types:

Role type

Does this...

Quantity

Business user

  • Manages their day-to-day activities using the web application or Roam.
  • Accesses and works only in those parts of the system that their assigned roles allow them to access.

Most users of the application are 'business users'.

Administrator

  • Manages the users in the system; for example they can create users and assign them to roles.

Very few users are Administrators, perhaps one for each site.

Designer

  • Uses the Designer tools to configure the system to meet the needs of the end users.
  • Creates and manages roles; defines what administrative tasks the Administrator role can do.

Very few users are Designers, perhaps one or two in the organization.

note_awesome

As with all users, Designers and Administrators are also assigned to roles; their roles control what parts of the system they can see and what they can do in the designer tools.
