Assign a Role to a Role
|
To assign a role to another role, you must have Administrator role permissions to:
- add or update a role
- add or update hierarchical (role-to-role) role assignments.
|
Administrators with relevant permissions can allocate a role as either an ancestor or descendant of another role.
When a role becomes a child (descendant) of another role, all users assigned to that role are implicitly granted all the permissions of the parent (ancestor) role(s). The total permissions granted to users assigned to this role, is all permissions assigned to this role, and all permissions assigned to the parent role(s) - all the way up to the root node of the role hierarchy.
To assign a role to a role
- From the menu, select Admin Security Security Roles. The list of roles is displayed.
- Locate the required Role in the list and open it.
- You can assign this role to inherit permissions from a parent role and/or to apply its permissions to a child role.
To inherit permissions from another role:
- Click on the Ancestors list.
- Select one or more roles from the selection list that displays, then click OK. The roles are displayed in the Ancestors list. This role will inherit its permissions from those roles.
To apply this role's permissions to other roles:
- Click on the Descendants list.
- Select one or more roles from the selection list that displays, then click OK. The roles are displayed in the Descendants list. These roles will inherit their permissions from this role.
- Click Save.
